Do you have any other games or Amiga progams you can try on the system?

Any more specific information on the Amiga would be helpful as well.

What model (A500, A2000, CD32, etc.)

Does it have any expantions in it?

What does it do whe nyou power it on without a floppy in the drive?

Basiclly any more information would help us better understand your situation and help us help you! :)

Is it booting from a hard drive? It may be a problem with the expansion box. Does the expansion have it's own PSU?
We really need more info, such as; PSU info, OS being used (1.2, 1.3, 2.0, etc) RAM, and as much info about the expansion as possible.

Hi jquizz,

That expansion card could well have a clock and battery on it.

It`s possible the battery may have leaked and caused damage.

Whip it out and check it.

See   http://www.bboah.com/index.php?sid=177265&lang=en&action=artikel&cat=69&id=3039&artlang=en

as an example RAM expansion card with clock and battery, I have a few of these which are damaged by battery leakage.

Older A500's had a red power led, and a green floppy led. Newer versions  (including the A500+) have a green power led, and an amber floppy led.       What kickstart do you have? 1.2, 1.3 or 2.04?

It's known that you can use them. However there was a scare story going around in the 90's that because of differences between the amiga and megadrive controller ports, you shouldn't use them without an adapter (two of the wires need to be swapped).

Supposedly if you press one of the other fire buttons (the working fire button I think is B??) then it can take out the joystick port. I don't know whether I believe it or not, but I used an adapter as it allows software to use all the buttons.

I hadn't heard this story, and I've used a Sega Genesis (what us Weird Americans call the Megadrive) controller on my Amiga.  Yeah, just the B button works.

I should look up what wires need to be swapped for the few games that support a two button controller.
