Well, in term of sofware, i guess you may be right, but the AmigaOne will have the advance of running Linux, and you can also run MacOS on Linux, so you should be just fine:-). Yes, i believe the 600Mhz G3-SE is more than enough, but XE allows you to upgrade your CPU at a later date, if you wish.

The first run of AmigaOnes may not be so very impressive itself, but when they start to support DDR/DDR-2 and 4x/x8 AGP among other things, then the real fun will start:-). Anyway, the AmigaOne deserves all attention, and it deserves the chance to join the market again:-)

whats stopping you from "bunging " a
faster G4 in yourself?

Well, then i'd have an unused 700 MHz G4, just like I now have an unused 800 MHz Athlon (didn't bother trying to sell it yet tho... :-)

Putting the IBM PPC 970 in the current / new Amiga One would be pointless.  The 970 supports up to  900 mhz frontside bus and the A1 is a 133 mhz bus.  When available, buy a new mobo.  The 970's minimum bus level is like 400 mhz.

I agree.  My original post didn't say anything about a 970 in the 'current' 'One.  But I wasn't very explicit.  I just meant "any future 970 plans?" ;-)

I like the term "One" - very catchy

"What system do use?"

"There can be only ONE!"

I`m still pissed  :-)

Thanks ;-)  It seems very natural since people talk about their 1200's, 4000's etc => 'One  :-D

Given that all Amiga software out at the moment will happily run on a 233MHz PPC, the entry level G3SE @ 600 MHz is more than enough for my computing requirements.
Despite developers coding away at new AmigaOne programs, and AmigaOne-specific versions of their software, it will be at least another year (and by that I mean 12 months, not 3 weeks) until we see some software that fully take advantage of the nextgen Amiga hardware.

As already mentioned, at least for the next 'x' months, GNU/linux is the only thing you can run on the board.  This is also one target market for the 'One, ie the Linux enthusiast who wants a PPC.  Think also of scientists getting a bunch of 'One boards and building a linux cluster.  The fastest Amiga on the planet! :-) Put, say, 500 of them together and break into the top 100 computers in the world :-D

And these guys could use as many MHz as possible.  I've not checked lately the exact numbers but even the 1.25 GHz G4 would run cooler than equivalent Athlons and Ps.

"Better, Faster, Cheaper" is (one of) my motto(s)!  :-P

I wholehartly agree with you, MartianM ;-) . PPC runs things much cooler than these Athlons/Pentium-stuffs, that's for sure! And if you want the Amiga as the main computer, the AmigaOne is  for you :-)  Go for AmigaOne-XE, if you want CPU upgradability.

Also remember that AmigaOne doesn't only have the option to run the new PPC-native AmigaOS 4.0, but for the moment it can run LinuxPPC and even the latest MacOS X Jaguar under it. Cool, i could run games like the Mac-version of Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast with AmigaOne.-). I think when AmigaOne is actually onto peoples' hands, then people will start to concentrate about what it can DO, and not what it CAN'T do. The option of having a dual-OS system comes in handy:-), and this is of course very important..

I also would like to point out that many people seem to underestimate the real power of creating music with a Tracker-program. Please DON*T, as with a modern Tracker, you will use the best in sound to create the music you want, the music you want people to listen to. Only your mind is the only limitation.. :-)
