File format of Demos at Ada's Demo site
« on: December 29, 2003, 07:04:12 PM »
Hi,
it's more than a decade now since I had Intuition, Paula, Agnus and Denise. So I'm nearly as new to Amiga stuff as I was back then!
I wanted to download some demos from http://ada.planet-d.net and run them with UAE on Linux. But it wasn't that easy.
1.) Is there a way to run a demo bootdisk from UAE's virtual floppy? Not talking about detailled CPU/chipset/RAM requirements, but talking in general, can _some_ demos run this way on UAE?
2.) What is a ".dms" file? I guess it is loaded by an application from inside of AmigaOS?
3.) Is there something special about the LHAs on Ada'S site? Because my Linux LHA can't unpack the LHAs over there, but it successfully unpacked other LHA files from other Amiga sites.

Kind regards
Peter Wiehe

You should be able to run ADFs fine from there (including bootable demos), but IIRC most stuff from ADA isn't ADF.

DMS is basically an image of a disk, like an ADF.  You could uncompress it to an ADF from within the Amiga or if you can find a Linux tool.  If you install a command called "XDMS", WinUAE can load DMS as if they were ADFs - I've no idea if Linux UAE can.

Not that I'm aware of, although I usually unpack them from within UAE (there is a self extractine archive here that needs to be run from inside the emulator to actually unpack the unarchiver).
