Recommend .avi player for 030/ECS
« on: May 31, 2011, 10:10:02 PM »
...50mhz 030 running OS3.9 and 'Action' does a really weak job. Avid off Aminet is a demo version, limited to the first 400 frames, so I haven't checked that out yet. Moovid only does greyscale with an ECS system.

Does a good .avi player for smaller files (7mb-15mb) exist for such specs?

MooVid was one of the best but it was a commercial product and I don't think you can buy it anymore... :(

Only other PD/Shareware ones that come to mind are CyberAvi & Frogger... :)

MooVid == Action

You're really pushing it if you want ECS to display AVI ;)

Best bet for you is to try this -> HAM6 Video
Life begins at 100 MIPS!

Nice Ports on AmiNet!

By far and away Id have to say FroggerNG. Moovid I found more or less useless, seems to work with maybe 1 in 10 avi files, while froggerng plays probably 90% or more of my video files (including HD mp4 rips surprisingly). Really though if you want to deal with industry standard video files on a 68k machine Id advise to use MPEG files due to them being less hardware hungry (although I assume there's a reason you specifically asked about avi's?).
Near as I can tell this is where I write something under the guise of being innocuous, but really its a pot shot at another persons/peoples choice of Amiga based systems. Unfortunately only I cant see how transparent and petty it makes me look.

shapeshifter and quicktime on an A1200 used to do the trick, might work with some of the evd's on an ECS machine

@save2600

You could always try ffmpeg to convert files to mpeg format.

I think your expecting miracles if you think an 030/50 ecs can pull off playing mpegs and/or playing modern avi files.  You migt perhaps get away with postage stamp size avi and files created in the 90s (such as those that appear on the os39 cd).

Their was a scenedemo called dreamscape by Triumph which was essentially an mpeg player+anim. Maybe check it out to see what your setup can do.

a 030/50 can play avi files compiled in 1991-1994....those with weak compression with a resolution at 192x64
a 040 or 060 will work fine on weak avi files with intel indeo codec at 300x200
but
most today avi files on the web uses divx compression or xvid compression unplaylable on any amiga even with a ppc
only winuae and a fast PC can do the job...the best video player is FFPLAY....it can play any video file with any codec even those with H264 compression..only needs a super fast 68k cpu
