ACA 630/25 32mb+1mb chip with WHDload?
« on: May 17, 2011, 09:17:57 AM »
Should whdload work without issues if I get the ACA 630 card with 32mb ram for my A600  with only the basic 1 mb of chip ram?

Im used to having the full 2mb of chip ram because I mainly use my A1200 with whdload without any problems.

But now I wonder that do I really have to get the 1mb chip ram upgrade as well if I buy the ACA 630 card for my A600 ?

A600 would be great for WHDload, since it's so small and it fit's perfectly under my TV table.
A1200, Blizzard 1260 + 64mb, Indivision AGA, Subway USB, 8GB CF-HD, PCMCIA network card, OS 3.9.
And a couple of A600\'s :).

IIRC many loaders require 1MB of free chipram to work so an extra 1MB would help

Feel's a little crazy that I will have buy an accelerator with 32mb that costs me 160€ and a 1mb chip ram upgrade that cost me about 50€ :)...
Oh well, a (amiga) man's got to do, what a man's got to do ...

There are second hand expansions too (will cost you around ~20€) and DIY expansions wiring chips directly to the MB (and simm modules). But IMHO the 2nd hand option is less risky.

Just did a little testing using winuae I installed ClassicWB ADV pack, configured the WinUAE as following:

030 processor
ECS chipset
1 mb chipram
32 mb fast

All the WHDload games I tried ran just fine...
A1200, Blizzard 1260 + 64mb, Indivision AGA, Subway USB, 8GB CF-HD, PCMCIA network card, OS 3.9.

And do you use exactly the same WHDLoad settings? You could take your HD/CF and use it directly on WinUAE to see if it's related to ACA630 configuration or just a general problem of your OS/apps install
