Genlock doesn't interlace?
« on: December 19, 2003, 06:00:14 PM »
Lately, I've been using my A1200 on a 1084 monitor using a really cheap old genlock, which works amazingly well for its apparent build quality (or lack thereof), but I've been encountering one problem:
Interlaced images come out non-interlaced, IOW with half the intended resolution. For my video work, this is no real problem, but it makes my workbench almost unusable.
What could make the genlock behave like this? Do certain genlock chips just not like interlace?

PAL and NTSC by their very nature work in interlace. It is also dependent at what screen resolution you are working in.

Hi Iggy_Drougge

have you tryed to launch Lacer?

with some "low-end" genlocks and Kickstart 3.1, is a good solution.

Ciao

True, but the Amiga can further interlace that interlaced picture, which the genlock obviously doesn't like. =)

Oh, I've always wondered what that commodity was for. Now I'll find out. Thanks. =)

Iggy:

Is there any video input into your genlock (I mean is there a video source connected which you plan on overlayingg gfx to?)  well if that video source is not interlaced......then your genlock will force workbench or any screen you have in front to NOT be interlaced making it look very ugly.........this happened to me when I was trying to genlock Scala text onto other video.........and that other video was another amiga diplaying animations.......but the animations were lores or not laced......so it made the amiga with the genlock become unlaced.........so I used a program that comes wth the SuperGen genlock called DoLace and put it in both Amigas but specifically ran it  on the one with the animations and it interlaces the animation without squishing it or anything............so that when I overlay gfx they look crisp and interlaced............

Broadcast titler if you have it needs that workbench be interlaced first before you start it........otherwise it will load but look real nasty......it expects WB to be in Hires Interlaced mode............... or you can run DoLace so that WB becomes laced first.
CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

Leirbag:

The input source is my VTR, which I believe can't be forced into interlace. Still, it's funny. When I was using my A2301 in Japan, it would display an interlaced picture fine as long as there was a live source, either TV or videotape, but would turn out de-interlaced when overlayed on the video's menus. This time around, with my cheap bastard genlock, it will turn out that way regardless of the video source (haven't tried with another Amiga as the source, though).

Hi all

ALL the "video broadcasting" and not source, are always interlaced (PAL50/60 hz, NTSC 3.58-60 hz /4.43-50 hz, SECAM 50 hz)

Sources like: VCRs, TUNERs, VideoDisks, video DVDs and so , are ALL interlaced.

Ciao

EDIT- by the way . . . which brand/model genlock, have you?
