Amiga BBS users/sysops resource blog
« on: March 05, 2011, 03:08:20 AM »
Hello!

I am starting a loose knit online resource for Amiga based Bulletin Board Systems, for their users and their operators.  Yes, those same BBS's you thought went the way of the Dodo 15 years ago.  The Amiga was ALWAYS the finest machine to run a BBS on, and there's been somewhat of a resurgence on a small scale in regards to old Amiga based Sysops running telnet BBS's again.  I'd like to see a repository of info and software for said people, for sysops and users alike, so here goes.

My main goal at this time is to continue to approach authors of old BBS related programs to kindly ask if they would consider open sourcing their programs.  I already had good luck with the developer of DLG BB/OS, who most graciously released the execs and C source code for said program.  I am atm trying to get ahold of the authors of MailManager, GMS, TrapDoor/TrapToss, Hack and Slash, Excelsior! BBS, among others - in hopes they will follow suit and perhaps provide keyfiles or open sourcing, or hopefully sourcecode.  If there's a useful program in the aminet comm dir, I hope to be able to get in touch with the original author to see if they are willing to open up the door, so to speak.

As of right now, I only have a VERY rudimentary blog dedicated to this effort, but I will have my 8 node Zeus BBS telnet up and running 24/7 within the next 2 weeks on my SAM 440 - which includes a full Aminet mirror and many other file offerings, Usenet, FTN's and many doors.  Just working out the few last nagging doorgame bugs that the SAM/OS 4.1 is having issues with.

BBS's, much less Amiga based ones - are a very narrow interest base, so I am not expecting too much excitement, tbh.  If anyone is remotely interested, please check out the below URL and give some suggestions!

Thanks much,
