Nostalgia for cartoon avatars

Facebook recently had a campaign against child abuse which had everyone changing their avatars to their fav childhood cartoon characters which was a lot of fun. But it occurred to me that we at A.org missed the fun altogether. So my idea is that everyone here changes their avatars to their most favourite childhood hero, Amiga or not, and let's get nostalgic! Isn't nostalgia why we are here in the first place?

Some of the avatars on A.org have been put up forever so it would be cool to get some new ones up too

So everyone quickly put up your fav childhood character and let's get nostalgic!

Well my favourite "childhood hero" Jimmy Reid wasn't a cartoon character so I guess that rules him out...

Anyway, I change my avatar at least twice a month and the one Tone007 came up with is my favourite so it's gonna have to remain for quite a wee while longer...

PS:Winnie The Pooh is a wee bit poncy don't you think...

I've never been a big avatar sort of guy, but thinking about what I'd put if I was to use one in this context would probably be He-Man, or another Masters Of The Universe character. Probably my most rabbid, long running interest as a child (apart from computers), starting in 81 when I was 5 (ironically the same year I got my 1st computer, a tandy trs80 coco1) until about 11. Over that time I amassed quite a collection. About 40 figurines, 2 castles, about a dozen vehicles, and a shedload of comics. Even as I got older I still kept them. Packed up and out of the way, but I didnt want to get rid of them. Unfortunately some mongrel sold them on me in secret on the side. Being that by that age they were in storage and out of everyday eyeshot I didnt learn this until almost a month later. Bit of a shame, as by now collectively they'd probably be worth a few $.

I'm dressed up as my favourite character from my childhood in my avatar, she started in games but made the jump to cartoons, comics and movies.

By the way, that Facebook campaign was a hoax, it had no ties to any child protection/abuse prevention agency but thousands of gullible people fell for it anyway. Sure it was a nice thought, but it shows how easily people can be led on by a lie.

I used to dig Bugs Bunny, until Star Blazers (Yamamoto) showed up weekdays after school. I'm not sure which character I would pick though.

Looking back on the original series decades later, Its a let down in how crude the animation was, and how hokey most of the plots were.

I never understood why people change their avatars every month or so.  Isn't the point of an avatar to be your recognizable "face" in a forum.  I look at the avatar and can instantly see who has posted (don't need to read the user name, etc.).  Like Cammy, and a few others have kept their avatars the same.  Mine has been the same for years - hey it's not the greatest (it's the VIC-20 man) but you can go back in the forum for years and know instantly which posts are mine.

Yeah, I kind of see that...but it kind of throws you for a loop at first when you see a "new face" posting and wonder who the new user is until you figure out it's somebody who has been around for ages.  I don't mind Franko's approach, where he alters his avatar but keeps part of it the same (the face).  However, totally changing one's avatar every couple of weeks kinds of defeats the whole intention of avatars I would think.  Oh well, not a big deal.  I guess I just have to get used to it!

There are only a few hundred popular cartoon characters and at least thousands of old Amiga Fans so we would have a couple of He-Mans, Captain-Futures and Batmans hard to distinguish. So I think it is better to maintain your individual style and if this happens to be a toon - so be it.

Maybe I should choose a Fraggle? Where is Convincing John, when you need him?

I would think that you can put something funny up, but after a while people will get sick of it, so you replace it with a fresher funny pic.
It might also signal time to start afresh or a change in attitude.

I like your avatar it's like you say, you always know who's posted something just by seeing there avatar...

But with both of me we can never decide which one we like best so we change it quite often just to keep each other happy...

@all. I only intended for everyone to change their avatar for a week or so and not forever so you can all stop worrying about your lost identities...

But for the record i would like to see some new avatars...
