Deneb usb cdrom drops dead...
« on: February 01, 2011, 02:34:12 AM »
Hmm, my Deneb and Posiden recognizes my new CDROM, but not for long. Poseidon repots:

Device USB TO IDE probably dropped dead.
Automatically powercycling port for 'USB TO IDE' due to death event.
Zapping device 'USB to IDE' at port 3
'USB TO IDE' retreated, pitiful coward.

:( pitiful indeed

I am using usbscsi.device at UNIT 0 in my DOS mount , but I don't really get that far, all this happens well before I get to any device mounting.

Any ideas? I'm gonna go check if there is an update for Poseidon ...

Latest Poseidon is 4.4. Is the drive getting enough power? It may need to be connected to a self-powered hub.

I'm a dummy. I failed to see this little slim line has 2 USB connectors on the back. One for data and the other is a power connector. With both connected now, it works perfectly!

Drama solved.

Nice!

Electrically, you probably shouldn't be using this kind of setup. If the drive does not have a socket for a power adapter, you should consider using a self-powered hub. These hubs usually don't have overcurrent protection (against the specs), while the Deneb has a 0.5A protection for each port. However, Michael Böhmer does not recommend routing the power of the different ports to the same device.

I can see your point, lot of power being drawn. I will pick one up (hub) this weekend that is powered.

Thanks Chris, love my Subway and Deneb...
