USB CDROM Deneb, what to look for?
« on: January 29, 2011, 03:29:04 PM »
Hey doers of Deneb,

I'm looking to add a USB CDROM on my deneb, how does this work? Do I need cdrom software and drivers? What should I look for / buy?

not 100% sure but think 3.1 had a cdfilesystem with it.  IF not there are free ones avaliable on aminet

Yeah, it'll be just like configuring any other CD drive, except using usbscsi.device.

Oh ok, that makes sense. Thanks guys. I was going to order a very plain cdrom for all of 15 buck or so:

See if I might install AOS3.9 on my 3000D this way.

I think that drive will work nicely. And I think Poseidon is even configured out-of-the-box to automount CD drives if you have AmiCDFS installed.

Yep, it automounts any USB CD drive I plug into the A1200 with AmiCDFS, but with the Subway. But it should be the same (just faster on the Deneb).

AmiCDFS it is then. I hate to abandon 3.1 but I got bigger HD here that would be better with 3.9; and the HD in there now is the original 100MB.

Let ya know how it goes...

I'm running 3.1 on my Deneb equipped A3000 w/ this super slim and sexy white notebook CD/DVD reader. USB of course and no AsimCDFS required. I think this is the one I bought. Works like a charm:

Goodness, that is naughty. I looked for a white one to match too, but only found more complex writers and dvds. Should get here this week...

@TheGoose,

I wish I had known you needed one of these the other day when we did our back alley hardware trade. I have 4 of these in a drawer that I'm not using.
