Using Compact Flash cards as removable media and HDD's
« on: February 01, 2011, 02:50:47 AM »
Hi Guys,

I've bought some adapters and CF cards to use in an A1200 and an A4000 (both of which are running OS3.9). The 64MB, 1GB, 2GB and 4GB are for transferring data between Amiga's and Amiga's and Amiga's and PC's. The 16GB card I hope to use as my first reasonably big Amiga HDD :)

The 64MB, 1GB and 2GB cards are perfectly readable using the CF0 driver from the file cfd.lha available on Aminet of which the mountlist is this......

Quote
/* compactflash.device $VER: 1.21 (19.10.2002) */
/* fat95 file system by Torsten Jager */

FileSystem    = l:fat95
Device        = compactflash.device
Unit        = 0
Flags        = 0
LowCyl        = 0
HighCyl        = 0
Surfaces    = 1
BlocksPerTrack    = 1
BlockSize    = 512
Buffers        = 20
BufMemType    = 1
BootPri        = 0
Stacksize    = 4096
Priority    = 5
GlobVec        = -1
DosType        = 0x46415401
But I only get a 'CF0:Unreadable' icon for the 4GB card :( With the 4GB card inserted, I've used GiggleDisk and typed 'Giggledisk compactflash.device 0 TO RAM:' and obtained the following mountlist.....

Quote
/*
** DosDriver automatically created by GiggleDisk
**
** GiggleDisk (c)2005 Guido Mersmann
**
*/

FileSystem       = WIN95 OSR2 FAT32
Device           = compactflash.device
Unit             = 0
BlockSize        = 512
Surfaces         = 1
SectorsPerBlock  = 1
BlocksPerTrack   = 1
Reserved         = 0
PreAlloc         = 0
Interleave       = 0
MaxTransfer      = 0x00FFFE00
Mask             = 0x7FFFFFFE
LowCyl           = 63
HighCyl          = 7830144
Buffers          = 50
BufMemType       = 1
StackSize        = 16384
Priority         = 10
GlobVec          = -1
DosType          = 0x0000000B
Activate         = 1
Mount            = 1
/* Bootable      = TRUE */
I've tried changing the FileSystem to L:fat95 and the DosType to 0x46415401 but that hasn't got it to work.

Any ideas on getting the FAT formatted 4GB card readable?

Could it be possible to read the 16GB card as it is now (FAT formatted), or does it exceed an Amiga limit for reading FAT devices?

Thanks,

:pint:
