BEST WHDLoad Settings
« on: December 02, 2010, 12:55:15 PM »
Every so often I still have problems with WHDLoad.   Most of my games work ok, but sometimes I find an occasional game that will not work no matter what.  For example, Marble Madness, Ultima VI, and several others that I can not remember will not work.

My question is whether anybody out there knows the best settings to use.  Which options should and should not be enabled in the config file?  Thanks.

What's your installed WHDLoad version? Some old slaves don't wok with 16+
Are you registered/unregistered or maybe using a pirate key (shame)?

My version of WHDLoad is %100 legal.  I payed my dues about 6 months ago.  I believe I am using the most recent version.  It is version 16.9.

Here are my specs:  A2000 w Minimegi 2mb chip adapter.  GVP Accelerator/SCSI card w 16mb (G-Force 030 (33Mhz PLCC)).  GVP 2000 HC+8 SCSI Card w. 8MB installed (SCSI disabled.  Card used strictly as a ram expansion).  2.5 GB IBM Scsi HD.  AMIGA OS 3.1 running Magic Workbench.  Indivision ECS Scandoubler w. Super Denise attached.  Lyra Keyboard Adapter.  Cocolino Mouse Adapter.  SCSI CDROM Drive.  2 Floppy drives.  3 Way Kickstart ROM Switcher (1.3/2.04/3.1).

Note:  The Minimegi chip was just recently installed.  I was having game incompatibilities before it was ever put it.  That will help anyone troubleshoot my issue.

Maybe some of your slaves are old slaves, not working with the current version of WHDLoad. You should look if there is an updated slave for those games.

I have never touched the settings file of whdload and i have no problem at all, except sometimes with some really old slaves from 10 years ago that won't launch with 16+, but have been updated meanwhile.

I went to the WHDload website and saw that a few of the games I am having a problem with have updates.  Do I need to install all of the files from the WHD download, or do I just need the "slave" file?

usually it is written in the readme if you have to start from scratch or just copy !

In most cases you just need to replace the old slave with a new one (unless there were some huge changes concerning usage of diskimages instead of files or opposite - it is written in the readme file).

But I have a question for you. You claim that your games do not work. What are the symptoms? The game crashes your system, screen goes black, the gfx is corrupted, WHDLoad quits, is there any requester with some information? Tell us more.

I think I may have found my problem.  I notice that my MMU was set to "enable" in my WHDLoad config file.  I disabled the MMU and immediately 3 problematic games were able to run just fine.  Thanks for your help.
