Did that pegasos sell for the price of a pegasos II? If so, is that a little nutty? :)

I got a mail from Ebay telling me that I got a 2nd chance on buying that Pegasos, not at the price of 1026 austr. dollar but at my own highest bid of 821 austr. dollar, which is 498 euro. Porto will be 90 euro, I remember having asked that at the seller. Strange enough, in the mail I got there was a link to Ebay to the Pegasos telling that I could ´buy it now´ for the price of 821 austr. dollar until next Wednesday. But when I click on the link in the first posting of this thred and click on ´view sellers other items´then the Pegasos is not listed  :-?

This is the text I got :

Dear discovmax,

You expressed interest in an item titled Amiga Pegasos Complete NEW system MorphOS by bidding, however the auction has ended with another
member as the high bidder.  In compliance with eBay policy, the seller, akiko32 is making this Second Chance Offer to you at your bid price
of AU $851.00.

The seller has issued this Second Chance Offer because either the winning bidder was unable to complete the transaction or the seller has
duplicate items for sale.

If you accept this offer, you will be able to exchange Feedback with the seller and will be eligible for eBay services associated with a
transaction, such as fraud protection.

This offer expires Wednesday, 10 Dec, 2003 14:43:48 AEDST.  To purchase this item, click the "Buy It Now" button located at the bottom of
the following page

and if I click on the link then I see the same Pegasos that is listed on top of this thread at the price of 851 austr. dollar ...
What should I do ?? It's a Pegasos1 with everything on it and in it. On the other hand, I have ordered a Mediator 4000D from Elbox last week to use my Voodoo5 and more. This A4000 still has got AGA, Pegasos doesn't. I remember how disappointed I was when using Amithlon which was megacool and megafast but didn't know #### of AGA and the problem is that I am crazy about scene demo's ... so in my eyes, a Pegasos is not ,much more than an improved Amithlon when talking about AGA ... am I so wrong or is this the final moment to get my hardware upgraded by a Pegasos1 ??? Wasn't there a hardware issue aboutt the Artica bridge ?? And what about OS 4 for the Pegasos1 ?? Only 600 computers have been sold, not ?? OS4 will definitely be ready for Pegasos2 but how about the 1 ???

First thing I'd do if I were in your shoes is find out which April revision the Pegasos has.  The Rev1 Articia S in the Pegasos has a problem, which Genesi solved with a little bit of hardware called an "April chip" (I don't know how much you follow the NG Amigas, so I'm assuming you know nothing).  The original April was found not to fix all the problems, so another one was made, called April 2.  I'm sure others (greenboy, you around?) will give you more info, but this is what I'd do:

* No April at all: definite possibility of data loss, consider not buying, unless you can convince Genesi to retrofit an April chip into it.  They're big on customer care, so I'd say you've got at least a 50-50 chance of them doing it.
* April 1: problems almost fixed, many say they haven't had any issues with it, a few report some problems, but they seem rare.  I'd say go for it.
* April 2: presumably fixes all problems, and in any case there is no April 3 :-)  Go for it.

In any case, no NG amiga has chipset emulation, so you won't be able to run most games or demos natively, ie you'll have to run them under UAE.  You can do that on any newish PC, so if all you want to do is run Cannon Fodder and Syndicate, save your money.

[edit: I forgot to mention AmigaOS4 on the Pegasos... Genesi and Hyperion might yet agree on a port to the Pegasos 2, especially if they have already sold 1500 units.  Odds of porting to a computer that is no longer being manufactured, and which only 600 were sold, are pretty much zero I'm afraid.  Hyperion would make more money porting it to run on "candy" iMacs...]

Thanx for the info. I already got advice from a belgian Pegasos1 user not to buy it and when I read your comments I have clearly decided not to buy that thing, no matter how great it looks. It would cost me close to 600 euro to get it here, and for that price a Pegasos2 mb can be bought and I've got a lot of the other hardware already here ...
