I currently have a CNet Pro BBS configured and setup, but it's currently offline because I have little time to run it. But if you want to access it, PM me and we can hash out a time I can have it running for you.

It's also setup for FidoNet and AmigaNet networks. Both of which are active even today.

The BBS's website is http://bbs.amigaz.org

What happened to your BBS?  Put it back up dude!

Was always partial to Zeus BBS, which is hands down the most powerful Amiga BBS package I ever used, and I used most of the commercial ones (Cnet, DLG, Xenolink, E!, and finally Zeus).

Also liked DLG BB/OS as well, was very quick - and has been released (with source) for free now.

Zeus runs fairly well on the SAM as well, where as DLG doesn't at all really on it.

I ran several Amiga BBS programs from '86 - '95.  Started out with BBS-PC! and then moved to Paragon which later became Starnet and finally MEBBBSNet before the author quit supporting it.  Moved on to Excelsior then before shutting down in 1995 when I moved an the calls just quit coming in.

Miss those days and would like to set up a telnetable bbs.

Hehe, small world.  I recall being a user on your BBS ages ago.

E! was likely the most stable BBS program I ever ran, the support just petered out.  I'm getting a lot of enjoyment out of running a BBS on an old PC with a stripped down XP install running WinUAE, easier than ever and no messing with dodgy old hardware.  I wouldn't recommend using a SAM machine for a BBS these days, sadly.

With UAE, networking is there, the backend windows support is there to do weekly aminet mirrors for the BBS, as well as being able to use the net for FTN/UUCP vs. mailers, website, etc.

It's quite stunning to be able to run a 4 node telnet BBS on a mini-itx rig via WinUAE.  Trip down memory lane without fighting with old gear.  I'd recommend it wholeheartedly for anyone that misses the old carrier whistles and squawks.

I need to do up some kind of modern FAQ for old Amiga sysops wanting to get back into the hobby, there's still 2 BBS packages (Zeus and CNet) that seem well supported, and DLG BB/OS is entirely free now, C source available for DLG.  Wish more of these old BBS authors would release their source so we could get a BBS program that runs well on the modern PPC/OS 4.1 (or MorphOS) platforms.

I've got a PC I leave on all the time that would be perfect for this.  What BBS software are you using?  Any tips for setting it up?  tnx.

That's cool you remember this BBS and actually used it.  It was pretty popular for a while.

I ran C*Base BBS on my C64 and Cnet when I went to Amiga.  I did try some others that I can not even remember their names, but CNet is bar far the best I have found.  The biggest baddest BBS on the Clarksville, Tn FT. Campbell KY area back then was Okie Bug BBS that ran CNet.

BTW, welcome tlgrooms & Duce to RoF.  Hope you guys call regularly!

I dabbled a bit with MaxsBBS. From what I remember it was quite easy to set up.

Me too.  I put some time into customizing pages and features.  It was easy.  When I began to get serious about dedicating a phone line, everyone seemed to be jumping to the net.  Thanks a lot, Al Gore.  Grin.

IIRC, Maxx'sBBS was free.

Hi Tim,

I just wanted to say that I still have my old BBS-PC! install running on my A1200 but it is not connected to Telnet like Ami-Express is. I log on locally sometimes just to re-read old threads.

If I remember correctly, BBS-PC! had trouble with modems faster than 2400 bps and could not handle RTS/CTS correctly.

Like another poster mentioned, your BBS sounds familiar...

C-Net is probably the "best" as far as most well known and good apps, features etc.

Excelsior! was a C-Net-like BBS program that was pretty good..  In ways it shined over C-Net, but is lesser known.

Trinity is a simpler BBS program that I found that was pretty good too..

I may someday write a new one, but no telling when...

What the community really needs is someone to work on the rather shoddy telnet implementation in some BBS software. I don't know about C-Net but my Ami-Express hangs all the time due to the telnet / Miami DX combo...

Have you tried telnetd.device?  Worked flawless for me...

I love CNet.  I been tinkering even with CNetv12 on a C64 emulator.  Anyways, with the CNet Amiga Pro v5.10e that I use, I use telnetd.device also.  Works very well.
