@Zipper, you better read the T&C of this site, and remove the link from your post :-)

How is getting something you already own illegal?

If you lose your Peaches and Herb's Greatest Hit's CD, you are not entitled to a brand new copy for free if you lose it. Lost it? Buy a new one. You aren't buying the content outright, you're buying a piece of plastic that carries the content. Lose the plastic, lose the music. You aren't allowed to make copies for people and you aren't allowed to steal another CD (which is what copying is).

Once people get off this whole "mine! mine! mine! free! free! free!" kick, the logic is clear.

To get a free disk from Commodore back then, you still had to prove you were an owner of an A1000, which is what you did when you sent in your registeration card.

Let's see now... I own the software though I've currently missplaced the media it was on so I recreate the software from a backup... if this is my backup or someone elses backup shouldn't matter as I still own the software in the first place.

And sure, if bad ppl knock on my door thretten to bust my "pirat organization" whide open cause of this, I'd use the next few days to turn my house uppside down to find the originals to prove I own the software.

Had a look round that site and A3000 KS and Workbench disks have been removed.  It looks like the A1000 files there are legal so the link should not be against a.org's T&C.  Maybe a mod could contact the sites admin and clarify?

Because of reactivated copyrights of the new AMIGA owner, this file is no

All OS and WB files till version 2.0 are released on the new Amiga+ (3/2000)
magazine cover cd with permission of Amiga International (Germany). CD32 developer

workbench 3.0 files on the "PC-Magazin" cover cd, march/2000.

Cloanto has now also realeased a cd called "Amiga forever plus pack" which
contains the os versions 1.0 - 2.04.

Well, it is in fact illegal..

Is it?

I'd say thats fair use and while thats an official thing in the US the concept does exist in other countries.

Besides, when I first got an A1000 they included originals of WB 1.1 but copies of WB 1.2.

My second A1000 didn't have any originals but I already own them anyway as I have Amiga Forever.

*yawn*

Look, I thought just like you did, and was just as vocal about it as you did. Then someone told me to ask amiga inc and I did, and they said no, you don't get the missing disks for free.

That's it. Perhaps it's changed AGAIN, but at least back when A Inc was in business, this was their take on the subject.

Why is it so difficult for you people to believe me?

I don't even agree with their "no disks for free" policy, yet I'm here trying to persuade you to acknowledge, that this is what they told me.

Do I really need to start digging through my old email archives? I'm not really that interested in the subject any more.

Do I expect to be given a CD if I break it?  No.
Do I expect to be given a CD if I lose it?  No.
Do I expect to be able to copy my CDs to all and sundry? NO.

I like music and I am happy to go out and buy it, I have 400 original CDs to prove it.  I have neve used Kazza, Napster or any other file sharing system. so don't give me this free, free, free bo****ks.  I am not arguing in favor of pirating discs.

I am however expecting some COMMON SENSE to be applied to a guy with a computer which hasn't been on sale for 17 years and needs a disc to work it.

It may indeed by "technically illegal" to make a copy of a kickstart disc but does anyone really care?  Is KMOS going to sue over it?  Could they win even if they did?

So it's recommended to check the whole posting before a hasty posting...
At least I trust on Rainer Benda, who has been a well-reputed Amiga reseller.

Hi folks!
The panic is off... I found somebody who supplied me with an original Kickstart-disk. Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Hi everybody,  I know it's a pretty old thread, but this is the one which best matches my problem. I have an old Amiga 1000 which was not used since a lot of time... Today I'd like to give him life again for my young daughter, but I can't find the old KickStart 2.1 boot disk which was needed a few years ago... And even if I could find it, I don't think this fragile floppy would still be usable.  So I would really appreciate if someone could send me an ISO of KickStart. [kwansetsu AT yahoo DOT com]  Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. :-)  Kwan
