What is this?
« on: July 21, 2010, 08:03:00 AM »
I have been digging around in my stock of Amiga stuff. I found a amiga 500 with something in the trapdoor and i am wondering what it is.

There is a flicker located on a side of the amiga to turn it on/off but seems to be broke

If anyone know what it is, can it be turn on by the jumpers instead? :)

Looks like a RAM expansion with a clock battery and the switched jumper might be one of two things.  1) RAM expansion enable/disable switch, or 2) RAM config to make the added RAM Chip, or Fast RAM.

Those are my 2 guesses.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

So there should be a way to turn it on with those 2 jumpers maybe? i could test that with launching workbench right and checking if there is more Chip or fast ram in it?

Yes, but to be safe I would only change the switch, or jumper if switch wiring is removed, when the Amiga is off.

Its there a place you can get a new battery then or does that device work without battery so i can just remove it, before it does damage to the ram? isnt it just installed because it can remember time then in workbench?

Thx, i saw that 2. Is there a way to replace it or is it needed? shouldn't the RAM work anyway? The battery is only for the clock right?

The battery is probably only for the clock, yes, but If that battery has leaked over the tracks and stuff on that circuit board then it has probably knackered the whole thing. :(

But if its only on the battery, is there a guide somewhere how to remove this battery :)? or maybe a place where you can replace it then?

Just cut the battery terminals for now. And just get a new switch for a dollar, there's only two wires anyway so it's no big deal to just swap out the switch.

I have removed the battery and it gives me a green booting screen when it bootup. And that means a CHIP Ram fail. Is there any solution to trying fix these rams on this board?
