I love my amiga
« on: June 26, 2010, 12:41:11 AM »
There's been a lot of bad feeling lately on here.

So hey, I figured I'd post something nice.

Over the past few months I've been hunting and gathering for amiga bits to set myself up with a nice system to play around with. The intention was originally just for gaming, but creating mods, some graphics and word processing are in the works too.

Its nothing super exciting but here's what i have so far

A1200 (Commodore)
External floppy drive (very quiet too, nice)
A couple of joysticks though Im still looking for some better ones
Two mice, one tank style and one very nice amiga technologies one I got from amigakit.
A roboshift switch thingie to switch between mouse and joystick easy
Adapter box thingie to output to a humble sized LCD monitor
A pair of PC speakers with a small sub woofer to get decent sound. Used a 3.5mm to RCA adapter cable for that.
Compact flash adapter for the PCMCIA port, so I can transfer files easy
4 gig Compact Flash hard drive
030/25 with 8 megs of ram, so I can play alien breed 3D and Fears :)

At this point, there's not much collecting left.. just enjoyment and fun.
The system is set up in our bedroom, so it even FEELS like it's 1995 again though the machine I had back then never had any sort of hard drive or expansion card :D

Best of all, my wife didn't give me any hassle. She knows I have a few hobbies and aren't fussed about it.

Come christmas or so, I'll propably start looking for a faster accelerator card so I can play Breathless and Doom without feeling like Im looking into someones mailbox :)

Nice!

Isn't it great you can afford to buy all the little trinkets and goodies for your machine that you never had the money for back in the day?

I hope your system brings you great joy and nostalgic happy memories.

Great little system you have there! When I had an A1200, that PCMCIA CF adapter was one of the greatest investments I ever made. Happy computing & gaming! Plenty of time to make new memories using the system  :)

Also look into the subway usb controller. I think it is worth every penny.

Dont forget about PCMCIA wireless. Very cool. I don't even have wireless for my Morphos Mini.

Between those two things, you may forget you even own that CF adapter for the PCMCIA.

Wow! Your wife actually lets you keep your "girlfried" in the bedroom and she doesn't mind?!? Got any pictures pitures of the two together? heh
My first exwife said "You never touch me like you do that computer."  So I shoved a floopy in her mouth and told her to do a full format. ;)
