No don't do that it because it would put pressure on the card (never a good thing), just mount it the same way I did it and all will be well with the world.

yeah, the trapdoor fits really closely.

It naturally seemed to bow out slightly now after I trimmed  it. I'm sure that helps.

I'd like a 64mb SIMM, but I'll need to find one that is low-profile.

After you get it up and running, I'd be interested to know if you have any problems running stuff that uses the 68882 FPU. I keep getting guru #8000000D. "Coprocessor Protocol Violation"
