A4000 almost no sound
« on: May 27, 2010, 12:30:30 PM »
Was about to test tracker hero on my A4000 when i dicovered that the sound was missing. I can only hear the sound very little if I turn up my speakers to MAX besides the that there is also a lot of noise in the speakers - any suggestions on what could have been blown up?

Playing modules or other sound-related activities has same problem - sound only hearable if speakers is on MAX.

And the speakers works fine with my other Amiga's

Chances are your caps have become defective. I'd suggest opening up your 4000 and look closely at the motherboard for any signs of 'sweaty' or 'leaking' caps.

Took a look at the capacitors, cleaned the motherboard and "poked" the capacitors - and sudddenly I got sound again. So yes it's a leaking capacitor problem.

Found a guy who sells those capacitors:

That is all very well, but you have to be good at SMC too :)

in fact *ALL* the caps on the motherboard need to be replaced as they ALL can spew.  Also, you need to desolder U402 and U403 as the acid can get underneath them.

I got someone local to me in Australia to do ALL my caps and battery.
