VistaLite3 and Vista Pro...wont run
« on: May 21, 2010, 12:02:04 PM »
Hi all

I have both VistaLite3 and Vista Pro that were given away on the CUCD's back in the day. But neither will run on my machine, double clicking the icon does not do anything. It's an 060 with FPU, 64MB ram. Also tried on another 060 card. I would like to run these programmes again, anyone here know whats up?

Thanks

I seem to remember having problems with Vista on the CUCD. I think I am right that they had coded a special script which detected whether you had an FPU or not, and then launched the right version, however, on my A1200 Blizzard Mk IV (no FPU), it always tried to launch the FPU version.

I had to find the icon for non-FPU version and run that, rather than the custom launcher.

Hi AndyFC. I do remember it running fine back when the mag was out, and that was on a Blizzard III 030/50 with FPU. But I am wondering if it just does not like the 060.
I have no other icons..only the 'No FPU version' and 'FPU' version.

I actually bought Vista Pro (still have it somewhere) and never had a problem with it on my M-Tech 030/28 + FPU.

Have you tried running it on any of your other systems? Perhaps it's a HD installation problem - something not properly assigned or a wrong tooltype (does Vista need reference to the 060 library?) Sorry - can't remember the exact terminology or syntax - it's been a long time since I've dabbled in this sort of stuff:(

@DrDekker. I tried running direct from the CUCD, and also by dragging the whole Vista folder over to the HD. Still don't work. I have yet to try it on my other system (A1200 030) as it's not quite up and running yet.
There is not even an error message so don't know what it is. I did have a look in the Icon Information box and there is nothing in there.

I've had the same problem here, but I haven't tried it recently. Check SnoopDOS. I can't remember if it says anything useful.

I have Vista Pro 3.05 (fpu version) running fine on my Cyberstorm MK3 060.
Do you have a graphics card in the computer? Vista Pro doesn't like RTG screenmodes, so I have to switch to a standard PAL/NTSC screenmode before starting the program, otherwise it just doesn't start.

This can be solved. The solution is outlined in the documentation of ModePro. Basically you need to create a custom PAL/NTSC screen and call it Fakebench. Then you must use a binary editor and alter the Vista executable, replacing "Workbench" with "Fakebench". Check ModePro for full details.

Yes, I do have a graphics card installed. Also I have just tried the program on an 030 machine now and it is fine. So I have just downloaded from Aminet a Binary Editor and ModePro. When the machine is back up and running again (in process now of taking it apart again) I will try it out. I take it, it's fairly obvious how these programs are meant to work? I have never used a Binary editor before.

I have problems when I run vistapro while workbench is in a picasso96 mode. Before I run vistapro, I have to switch workbench into "regular" 640x200 ntsc(assume pal will work too...) mode...

Which is exactly what you can solve as per my previous post...

Should be pretty straight forward, yeah. Open the editor. Open the file, search for the string "Workbench" and change it to "Fakebench". Save and quit. Of course, it would be a good idea to back up the original just in case.

Well, it works now. As suggested earlier and put Workbench to a normal mode, not RTG. I think later on when it's all back together (for the final time now) I will use the Binary Editor and Modepro to make it more friendly.

Cheers all
