RTG GFX card options for an A4000?
« on: April 19, 2010, 06:57:07 AM »
Hi,

I'm thinking of looking for a GFX card for my A4000, but am unsure which is the 'best' one.

There's info out there, but no real side-by-side comparisons...

I'd like the following features :-)

1: To be able to connect ONE video cable, which will display Amiga native and the GFX card RTG on the one screen.

2: Standard VGA connector and 31Khz output.

3: Up to 1280 x 1024 in 24bit colour.

4: Non-interlaced Amiga native screen modes.

Not asking for much, am I? :-)

Any suggestions or feedback from A4000/GFX card owners would be great.

thanks once again,

Mike.

Actually there is only one GFX card wich do all that, Picasso 4.

But you can get new GVP spectrum GFX card wich has a passthrough, but no flicker fixer or 1280x1024 screenmode.

How about nice lcd tv? Some of them accept video signal through vga connector and do flicker fixing

Hmm... So I bet the Picasso 4's are rare and VERY expensive then? :-)

I went through the saga of trying to hunt down an LCD TV/monitor, but here in Australia they seem to be almost impossible to find.

PIV are indeed rare beasts. If you don't wanna search for long time (you might get lucky though who knows), you can get an Indivision 4000 SD/FF along with whatever RTG you may find, and switch with a UMON RTG/AGA switch from AmigaKit, or for a little worse quality an KVM switch. That way you got 1 output for your Monitor and 100% RTG/AGA modes (with only glitch... that you have to use a switch)

Easy, the only solution in one piece is Picasso IV.

Although the PIV is probably the best card for the A4000D with standard bus board and if you were willing to compromise have a look for a Cybervision 64 3D with scandoubler module. There is one for sale on amibay at the moment.

As I had PIV and CV3D+sd/flifi in my A4000 concurrently, I'd say PIV is the better one but nothing to blame on CV3D either.

Regrettably it's older and slower technology and does just 800x600@24bit. But still a good card.

I have a Cv64 3d and scan doubler.  Works well.  A CV64 with the the 3D's scan doubler works faster.

Does the scan-doubler also remove the interlace flicker?

I think it does. I use the CV64-3D in my A4000D and its works fine with LCD and CRT screens.

Here's one without the SD module for sale on Amibay http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?t=5838  or with the SD module also on Amibay http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?t=5820

The CV643D SD is a pure scandoubler, no flickerfixer and it's only a 16bit SD so you lack 24bit colour depth
