Ok... Geronimo...
« on: March 10, 2010, 03:30:35 AM »
Well, I know this isn't probably the place to ask... but I think I may have some luck here since we all have such diverse computer backgrounds...

I am an Amiga Collector - but I also collect other old OSes.  Well, I am looking for an original copy  IBM OS/2 Warp Version 4.  It was the first version of OS2 with TCP/IP Support and Netscape Communicator!

Some background info:  I part-time teach CPT classes and when I teach the OS class I have to basically cover the history of OSes as Part of the class.  So I bring in emulators of the Atari ST, C64 WinUAE for Amiga to show off non x86 OSes that where abundant at one time.  Then show off the progression of Unix, Windows, DOS, and OS/2 before jumping into modern OSes like Linux, MacOS 10x, and Windows Vista/7.

Well, I have many different Windows, Linux, and DOS OSes working in Virtual Box, VMWare, and VirtualPC (OS2 only likes VirtualPC) - but I really want to show off OS/2 Warp 4 since it has TCP/IP and would "surf" the web!

If anyone has it and don't mind parting with it please PM. I own Version 3 so upgrade version would be great, but I prefer full version since it is quicker to install!

Thanks,

PS - If you haven't seen this - cool OS pics - http://toastytech.com/guis/

There was a free version of it released (I got a copy with a PC magazine) you might be able to download it somewhere. Sorry I turfed my copy a couple of months ago as there is no interest in it.

I spoke too soon, seems the above link goes to replacements for the two install floppies you have to boot with for OS/2 - still need to find the Os/2 ver. 4 install CD that has the actual install floppy images.  OS/2 is about a 40 floppy disk install if you don't have the CD install version!

But still a good link to have since it has updated install drivers!

Thanks

eBay is alwaya worth watching, even if there isn't anything when you look the first time, take a look week on week and you can bet your bottom dollar there will be a copy on there at some point - people sell the strangest things!

Not the right versions, but the idea is there: Link1
Link2
Amiga A1200, 3.1 ROMs, Blizzard 1230 MKIV 128MB & FPU, 4GB DoM SSD, Workbench 3.1

I'd like to stay legit since I am always subject to audit... of course since OS/2 Warp 4 is dead I don't think they'd come after me... but I don't want to risk it at the college.

Thanks,

Checked out your site. Nic work. I believe Sharp had it's X68000 system and at one point it had a GUI called HunanOS (or something like that)
