visualprefs gad bitmaps dithering!?
« on: November 18, 2003, 11:59:39 AM »
i adapted a set of visualMI bitmaps and made some nice ones. what i've done is i've carefully locked 32 colors to the newicons palette and left 32 free (= 64 total). so using ppaint i remapped all my bitmaps to use the newicons colors (just 4 shades of greay) yet certain bitmaps still insist on dithering. which suggests to me it's trying to allocate colors that are already available. is this something to do with the bitmap rendering code inherent to the os? whatever it's annoying. i'd take a screenshot but i'm unaware how, heh.

generally using fullpalette doesnt always seem to work as, for example, the mouse pointer prefs steals 4 of the palette colors no matter what you do!

well i think i cured it. it was only one icon which had some hand drawn diagonal anti aliasing in... i was suspicious so went back around the loop Personal Paint->load master ilbm -> change icon to a square instead of an x (close button) -> grab brush -> save brush -> reload brush to check color mapping.

so my new close button isnt dithered. i'm using 8 colors for the bitmaps. 6 of which i have locked with fulpalette, 2 of which i dont. but when i do lock them wb reassigns them after a reset anyway so i have them twice! wierrrd...

does 3.9 have this bizzare palette/pen mapping behaviour sorted, anyone know?
