Amiga 3000 SCSI Harddrives
« on: November 17, 2003, 07:00:15 AM »
Was the 3000 known to be hard to install SCSI drives in? I have installed SCSI's on Amigas,IBMs,Servers......and I have 5 SCSI HD's here at the house and the 3000 will only take 1 of them. I know all about setting the ID and terminators. This thing is being a pain!

Anyone have any tricks?

Not sure why, but they're not too fussy about the termination, so that's probably not the issue.

I do know the booting drive likes to be the first device to get recgnised on the SCSI bus.  So if you have a CDrom or something with a lower ID number and gets detected first, it refuses to boot from anything.
Therefore device IDs for the main boot drive is best set to 0

Check there is power supplied to the SCSI terminator line.  It's 5V which is supplied by D800(?).  Apparently this diode was fitted incorrectly in some A3000s, causing SCSI problems.
I've also seen a few of them go open circuit.
Some SCSI disks will not spin up or operate correctly if there is no supply on the terminator line.

C= used a cheapo 1N4148 or similar, I'd suggest using any standard 1A power diode, like a 1N4007, as a replacement.

Schematics and details here if you need them:
