Someone posted a Bodega Bay on ebay

Here's the link:

It's dirty, but looks like it would clean up, especially with retrobrite.  They claim everything works.  And as an added bonus, it will make your 500 more powerful than a 4000! lol

This is about a 45 minute drive from my house.  But I already have a 500 and a couple 2000s.  So I'm having a hard time justifying it.  Still, it would be an interesting addition to the collection.

A Bodega Bay won't make your A500 anymore powerful than it already is.  All it does is allow the A500 the capability of more expansion with Zorro2 cards, and some drive bays.

If it does work and goes cheap, then it's still a good deal, but the sellers claims are unfounded nonsense.

Be warned if you do bid on it.

PS - They're pretty huge, too.

About 30 miles from where I live....

"makes more powerful computer then Amiga 4000"...  Horrible English, AND a lie?!

It's kind of got a neat factor, but man that thing is ROUGH.   I think I'll stick with my A2500..

Other than the "cool" factor of owning a rare piece of hardware I can't think in a way to justify someone buying this device.

Adding a A2091 or other SCSI controller and a Picasso II or other video card into the case will make a humble A500 really fly. But it will not make it more powerful than an A4000.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

I disagree the Bodega Bay definitely makes an A500 more powerful than an A4000. You just have to specify the use. Let's say for instance as ammunition for a catapult. It would definitely be more powerful since this sucker is freaking heavy!

As a computer though not so much. It really is just a busboard in unique enclosure that lets you keep everything kind of neatly together. Does its job well and there don't seem to be a lot of them floating around.

I'm kind of a Bodega Bay addict. I had one and sold it and bought another. Its a pretty cool expansion for a cpu upgraded A500. It is incredibly bulky though (think old IBM XT) and doesn't sit well on a desk because of that size.

I agree that the only reason to have one is if you like esoteric equipment.

I inherited one of these beasts from a storage room auction.  I used it for a short time then went back to my A500HD+.  Did give me 8MB RAM and a SCSI controller in a big box.  Neat to have, really, just no video slot.

And someone asked about if it adds an AGA chipset... *sigh*

I think an original A2000 would be better on the catapult...  but for the money, I'd get an A2000.  There is more addons made for the A2000 than the A500 and an overall cleaner setup.

Looks like he inherited it from a deceased family member. Sheesh. A few minutes online will give you a few facts. He's got a decent selling/buying record though. No need for the embelishment.
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.
