Stupid amiga 1000 questions...
« on: January 03, 2010, 11:55:39 AM »
A friend of mine said he has an old amiga 1000 in his attic that I can have, once he digs it out. He's not sure he has the disks for it but is sure that it worked last time he tried it.

Stupid question time, I had an amiga 1000 years ago, it was actually my first before amiga 500 came next, but that was then and this is now.

Where can I get kickstart and workbench disks for this computer, and can amiga 1000 only run workbench 1.3, or is 3.x at all possible?

Does anyone know if that amiga 500/2000 ide hard drive mod from finland
will work on the amiga 1000?

Will the ecs scandoubler from amigakit work with an amiga 1000?

Thanks for your thoughts...

Steven

An A1000 has only 256KB Kickstart 'WOM', so you're limited to Kickstart 1.3 w/o modifications. It's rather easy to add a real ROM with 2.x/3.x though, someone here was selling kits afair.

Hi,

@haywirepc,

I have a kickstart disk, and workbench disk for the A1000. I also have a kickwork disk both combined. Once again, they are up in the attic with the rest of my software, will have to go up and find them and dig them out. (Not an easy task since I have over 5000 disks up there (Amiga) and about 3000 disks IBM & CPM).

Grrrr I thought I was the only Pennsyltuckian here.

but

Good to see another Pennsyltuckian on Amiga.org.
Hey, If we get one more Pennsyltuckian on Amiga.org we will rule by popular vote!!!

The rom kits,

You can try Software Hut (http://www.softhut.com)
You can look at Amigakit (http://www.amigakit.com)

Sorry but if they don't have them, you might be stuck with disks.

Give the user DJBase here a shout. He currently produces Kickstart adapters for the A1000. Then just track down a 16-bit Kickstart ROM from somewhere if the dealers do not have them. Amigatoaster on ePay usually has some:

How difficult would it be to add another 256kb to the WOM of that Daughtercard? I've seen all sorts of RAM upgrades throughout the years for various systems that included very little modification to the circuit. And if I'm not mistaken, I even saw one where the 256x4 ram chips were piggybacked! lol  Despite the ROM adapters available, I think it would be cool to have a 512kb Kickstart Disk (3.1 for example) that needed to be loaded to maintain the original "feel" of the machine.

Naturally, there's that excellent MultiKickstart program that boots both 1.3 and 3.1, but that requires ram expansion and said ram has a specific address it requires (2091 ram ala a slingshot adapter does not qualify).

Well first I'll see if my friend digs this out before I go hunting too much. For now I was just curious about the expansion of upgrade possibilities because I like the 1000 case and external keyboard better than my 500.

It would be a cool project if I could have a really pimped out 1000 with scandoubler, 3.1 roms and internal ide hard drive, but my $$$ may be better spent on a 1200.

Still fun to see what you can do with an original amiga.
