Joining a new commune..
« on: October 26, 2009, 01:18:34 PM »
I'm bored, and more to the point, unemployed.  Anyone want to pitch in to form a new Commune?

Are you thinking something like Walden II?  You could play the role of BF Skinney, grin.

More like taking the best parts of all the sites out there like Facebook, Myspace, etc and creating an open source, or perhaps compiled shareware version for all webmasters to be able to create their own communities quickly and easily.

More than just a content management system (like Xoops) or forum (like vBulletin) and much more open ended to allow everyone out there to be able to run their own social networking site.  The difference is, UNLIKE Facebook, MySpace and the others, the privacy of the end-user would be taken very seriously and guarded.

FB and the others say "everything's wide open unless the user says differently".  I want to create a system where "unless the user says differently, the data is only available to them".  That way, a user could very easily set up a copy of Commune as nothing more than their own personal diary, or as wide open as a Flickr account.

Just pulling ideas out of my arse really, and hoping to give myself some "reason to live" (not to be taken seriously) and motivation..

Sounds like a very interesting concept! I dunno how much help I could be for such a challenge but whatever I can I'll do. Sorry to hear about the job loss.
