A2500 CD-ROM Addition?

Wikipedia says AmigaOS supports CDFS CD-ROMs..  I've got OS 3.1 and some ADF images on my PC.  Would I be able to burn a CD on my PC that an Amiga CD drive would read?   If so, what kind and where do I get a drive?  IDE with an adaptor, or a SCSI drive?

SCSI drives are a little tougher to find than IDE, but it's the easiest way to go if you've already got a SCSI interface.

I haven't run across a drive yet that wouldn't read burned CDs, but I know there are some ancient ones that might have trouble.

I have old Creative CD writer that sometimes has trouble reading the very cd's it burns. How funny is that! And yet those burnt cds read just fine in old cd-rom drives. Hmmmm! Speaking that I have an A2000 with a Data flyer SCSI/IDE combo controller, I plan on mounting the said Creative writer which is IDE. I never used the IDE bus before so it will be interesting. If it is too much trouble I guess I can get a SCSI cd-rom drive.

Will any scsi CD-ROM work?  Like a 32X drive? I have an A2500/030 so it should have a controller built onto the 030 card, right?  Thanks for the info, guys.

Some do but not all, I have a Derringer Platinum 030 that does not have any built on SCSI. The SCSI I mentioned before is separate. I think Some of the GVP and Fusion 030 boards have built on SCSI controllers. You'll have to open it up and look. SysInfo might tell you too.

Oh yes I forgot, any SCSI drive should work. You need to make sure it is terminated properly with a jumper if it is at the end of your SCSI chain. That might mean changing the SCSI drive jumper if it is the only SCSI device currently.

If the Amiga 2500 still has an A2091 SCSI controller then you have your SCSI port.  You don't even have to open it up to verify, just look for a DB-25 port sitting vertically in one of the back slots.  It is much more likely to be a SCSI port than a parallel port card installed.

Actually, you're right.  I looked it up and I have this Nexus card installed:  http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/nexus.  

Sounds like all I need is the drive...  Any software required, or will Amiga OS 3.1 see it and read it natively?

AmigaPixel, is there a "terminator" or something that I need to buy also?  or is that just the pin jumpers that plug in?

Beast96GT: OS 3.1 has very limited CD-ROM support. I'd suggest a 'proper' CD Filesystem like AsimCDFS (commercial, might be able to find on EBay) or otherwise some freeware/shareware options from Aminet.

As for termination, there might be a jumper on the back of the CD drive to terminate the chain... Depending on the Amiga system, controller, drive, time of day, broccoli, etc..... that jumper may or may not work to properly terminate the SCSI chain. Some ppl. I know say only a separate terminator will work properly.  Myself, I've had no problems using the termination jumper on a few CD-ROM's, or the term. switch on a Zip drive.... but, as always, Your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the response.  When you say 3.1 is 'limited,' what exactly do you mean? I really only need an easy way to transfer files from my PC to my OS 3.1 Amiga, so if it will simply read the disc and copy files to the HD that would be enough.

ISO 9660 filesystem without extensions (level 2 filenames) and SCSI drives only.
