I thought this was interesting enough to let through the filter because it is obliquely Amiga related.  Langdell has trademarks on an Amiga game published in 1990 and from what I understand, Electronic Arts is claiming that the trademark has been abandoned.

Makes me wonder to what else the word "abandoned" could be claimed if someone cared to press the issue.  Hmmm.

I think this is sad... to me it is a clear case of bullying.

Wow.......

This guy is a *COMPLETE* douche!!!

Makes me want to make a comic book called "Edge" and copyright the name with all links, trademarks, etc. and have a company publish a game as "Edge:Based off the comic book, Edge".

It would be a ridiculous lawsuit and he'd lose, as I'd have actual ownership over the name, "Edge" relating to anything directly associated with the comic book, including movies and video games.

It's pricks like this guy, who lives off other people and their works, that makes our society so unpalatable.........

Although, in US Courts, they could demand that he bring forth actual working product of his said "games", beyond storyboards, engines, graphics, etc. Should he provide nothing (which he obviously couldn't), he'd lose his case. Furthermore, they could also pull bank records of the "Edge" Company and showing that the business had no actual income in X amount of years, would seem, regardless of whether or not he trademarked the "edge" or "Edge", that it was a company that is non-viable.

This Langdell guy just disgusts me. I can't even believe he's associate with Amiga. Then again, I've never played *ANY* of his games which probably shows how utterly crappy they and his company actually are.

He has actually tried that one!

Quote

In early 1993, Langdell sued "The Edge" from the band U2 for infringement on his trademark. Langdell claimed that his use of "Edge" as a proper title superseded that of Mr. Evan's use as his stage name. The Edge chose not to settle, and Langdell's claims were dismissed.

There was a company who wanted the exclamation mark as trademark. Thankfully, trademark ppl weren't that stupid.

Personally, I think if you want a trademark, you get a centrally generated unique ID.
