Mini Megi Chip: What is the benefit of this chip??
« on: August 19, 2009, 03:36:03 AM »
Hello, I saw on Amigakit.com this "Mini Megi Chip".  How does your Amiga 2000 benefit from this and what would it be used for?  Does it speed up your system at all?  Thanks.

Barney

Gives you a total of 2 MB of Chip RAM. If you often run out of the default 1 MB, then you'll probably want this.

But what is the problem with running out of chip ram when I still have another 8MB on my system?

that's 'fast ram'..some programs require or use 'chip ram' only for specific things to run properly/quickly....but if you have'nt come up to a  low chip ram error yet then it's most liley you don't need the extra ram?

Barney,
you likely don't need it unless you do:
- a lot of multitasking between graphics memory hungry applications (graphics memory is not the same as the other memory).
- some video editing on video toaster.

A better investment for A2000 is (in no particular order, although cpu is quite critical):
- faster CPU/accelerator card
- graphics card
- flicker fixer (to connect to vga)
- network card.

Thanks.  I guess I can hold off on this upgrade for now.  Thanks.
