A300D Networking?
« on: July 28, 2009, 10:35:54 PM »
Hi all, I know I am getting a bit previous here about my new A300D (which I don't even have yet lol), but I'm getting all the stuff I want ordered based on your great advice.

I have another question if you all don't mind.  Is there a cheap and easy way to network a 3000D or do I need to get a ZorroIII Network card from somewhere?

Cheers all

Skil

Any Zorrocard should work.

Here's one

Or you could go the more expensive way with

Deneb and a usb etherdevice.

More expensive in the short term, but a Deneb also offers you access to lots of cheap USB peripherals. Such as a sound card for AHI compatibility and cheap USB->SATA external hard drives etc. etc. PLUS it also has a KickFlash equivalent allowing you to fast-boot to OS3.9 without reboots and store drivers otherwise missing from Kickstart (boot from CD-ROM for example!)

While I am not a fan of native Amiga USB, if you HAVE to have networking then it should be at the top of your list ahead of Zorro II network cards. (Unless you can find a bargain!)

Talking of bargains, you can usually bag a hydra Amiganet card very cheaply cos they do not have 10-base T connectors on them. But you can get an AUI->10BaseT adapter (transceiver) for next to nothing on eBay.

I've got a couple of those Hydra cards, they work well.

One of them doesn't even have AUI though, just a BNC connector.  Had to find a nice old hub to use that one.
