adf to disk problems
« on: June 22, 2009, 08:37:25 PM »
firstly I am new here so please be gentle....  Having sold my amiga 1200 some 13 years ago and moved onto the PC, I eventually found WinUAE, and got right back into playing good old miggy games.   A month ago I decided I would have to have a real amiga again so bought one off E Bay for a princely sum.  I also bought a PCMCIA adf to disk transfer kit from Amiga Vintage in Germany.  The hardware and software arrived and I eagerly read the limited instructions which were fairly straight forward. having set everything up I transferred some files from my PC onto the CF disk and inserted into the PCMCIA adapter and into the amiga. I started up the conversion software which is Tracksaver, ADFBlitzer is also supplied.

I have tried more than a few times to transfer the ADFs back onto an amiga disk without success.... very frustrating.

When the software has done its work, and the amiga restarted, the disk shows up as Df0:???? and obviously won't run.

Not being technically minded I don't know what is going wrong.

Does anyone know any possible reason this may occur and how I might be able to fix it... awaiting your replies and thanks in advance....

Regards Retrogamer

Usually when the disk shows up as DF0:??? it means that it is a Trackloader games which is cannot be run from Workbench ... Try restarting the Amiga with the disk in the drive .

already tried that with no success, the hdd light comes on then the floppy light a few attempts then the hdd boots up.

what confuses me is that they aren't even showing up as NDOS!!!!

Why don't you try converting your adf's with floppyflux. For me, this is the best program to handle adf files. Get it here: http://aminet.net/disk/bakup/FloppyFlux.lha

It could be:
- your disk drive
- your floppy disk
We have new working disk drives that we use to transfer ADF to and from all the time.   Hundreds of disks done.

Like RetroGamer I'm new here, but just last week I dusted of my precious Amiga 1200 which had been languishing in the loft for the past 8 years or so. I got hold of a CF kit and installed that as my HD with no problems. I also purchased Amiga Explorer from Cloanto so that I could transfer adf's over to the Amiga via null modem cable. The adf's have been giving me similar problems to what RetroGamer describes. I would transfer adf's over to RAM in the Amiga then copy them over to my CF HD. Now if I transferred them straight from RAM to DF0 using ADF-Blitzer no problems would occur. However, if I transferred the adf's from RAM to the CF HD and then used ADF-Blitzer to write to DF0 from the CF HD I would get a floppy called DF0:NDOS which is unusable. If I copy adf's directly over to CF HD using Amiga Explorer and use Blitzer to write to DF0 no problems again. The other strange thing is if I use Blitzer to make an adf from DF0 and write it directly to my CF HD it is unusuble if you then try to use the file to make a new floppy.

My solution was not to use RAM in the Amiga between copying to the CF HD which for some strange reason corrupts the adf. Also do not use ADF-Blitzer to make adf's and write them direct to CF HD, I don't know why but in my case it don't like it.
