Running DF0 and DF1 on a A4000
« on: July 09, 2009, 02:47:14 PM »
Hi Folks,

this must be one of the dumbest questions on the forum, but here goes! So what exactly is required to run a 4000 desktop with two internal floppies?
I obtained a replacement for the origional HD floppy(DF0) from AmigaKit (not HD as far as I recall), everything fine so far. Then I managed to salvage another HD floppy from another 4000 and fitted this inside machine with Amigakit floppy - so now two internal drives physically connected. Problems start, if I insert a floppy into either floppy drive there is no power light coming on and no disk activity - but if I disconnect the floppy I/F from either drive the other one will work perfectly OK?. I tried adding a line to startup "addbuffer >nil: df1: 15" but all that did was to halt the startup sequence.
Any ideas etc. much appreciated, Ian

IIRC there is a jumper on the motherboard which has to be set (or removed) when DF1 is present. Also you might need a special cable with two lines swapped between DF0 and DF1.

Like usual, Warren Block's A4000 FAQ has the answers....
A4000 Floppy Drive Cable Problem
Motherboard jumpers (See J351)
