Original Amiga name ?

In the beginning of the Amiga history, the Amiga 1000 was simply named "Amiga" or "Commodore Amiga".

In different source on Internet, we can see the there was a name change to "Amiga 1000" when the Amiga 2000 was developed in 1986.

But I have found on the november 1985 issue of the french magazine Tilt the word "Amiga A 1000" : http://obligement.free.fr/temp/tilt26_novembre1985_page020.jpg (bottom of the page).

So the questions : when the "numbering naming" (1000, 500,...) was launched ? Is there any article on Amiga World (issue 1 and 2) mentionning "Amiga 1000" or such ? Is the name "Amiga 1000" or such was already known in 1985 ? How the guy in Tilt have found the name of "Amiga A 1000" in november (time of write : october) 1985 ?

I hope some Amiga specialists can help to clear this question. If it's true, all Internet articles about the naming of the Amiga 1000 must be rewritten.

I think it is just how... you say... Amiga in franch.
A la Amiga. a Amiga.
Could also be a typo.

My September 1985 issue of COMPUTE! does not mention 1000 or A1000 at all, just Amiga is used to refer to the new computer from Commodore. Certainly at some point between the release of the A1000 and planning of more machines there was a need to number all the machines so that consumers did not get confused.

I still have an A1000 built in October-November 1985, and yes it was the Amiga 1000 model number A1000..   The A500 and A2000 replaced the A1000 and was launched within a month or so of each other. The A500 and A2000 was a cost reduced all in one keyboard unit that incorporated revised custom chips while adding things like more CHIP_MEM (memory addressed by the custom chipset). People back then didn't look at the model number because there was only one Amiga at the time so to many people it was just "the Amiga"..  No one had a clue that Commodore was reshaping their line into one that worked more like the 64 and a version with more high end slots for business apps and better "IBM" hardware compatibility..  

Hope that helps get you out of Amiga "Fireworks" mode about all of this.. The A500 was a response to the Atari ST and the later to the Apple ][GS..

DonnyEMU : the number "1000" of your Amiga is mentionned where ? In the motherboard ? The docs ?

The "1000" is mentionned on the PSU :

CA1000PS -> Commodore Amiga 1000 Power Supply
It's the "Rev A" model from april 1986. Earlier model doesn't seem to have have "1000" mention.

Possibly C= adopted the "1000" label quite a bit before the A500/2000 got released, probably when they went into development.

I have the letter from Commodore I received in 1985 when they upgraded the system with the first Enhancement Kit.  The letter says: "Everything you now own for your Amiga 1000 system will still work with the new system software..."

The sales slip refers to the CPU as Amiga 0001.

Thanks beller. It prove that the name "Amiga 1000" was official or at least known very early in the Amiga history.

The original box on the side says, "EACH AMIGA 1000 PERSONAL COMPUTER COMES COMPLETE WITH:" (and the box says "Copyright (c) 1985" and "Printed in Japan"). The bottom of the keyboard says, "KEYBOARD FOR MODEL 1000" (red A keys). The power supply says 1985, but I think this Amiga was made in very early 1986.

Nowhere does it say "A1000", just "1000".

For the record - I have an A1000 that doesn't say A1000 anywhere! inside or out! Not the keyboard, the case, the mobo or the PSU. It just says "Amiga".

What does it say on the bottom of the keyboard? What serial number is it? (the keyboard and the computer)
