If at all possible you don't want XC processors.

Is it XC for recycled/recovered? LC for no FPU present/functional?

"The char before C can be X or M, XC means that it is an early "batch", and MC that it's a later, this is not very much to care about.

The ** after 68 is how the CPU is equipped, a "full" 68040/68060 do not have any chars here, it says "68040" or "68060", if it says LC it missing the internal FPU, and if it says EC it misses BOTH the FPU and MMU, EC means "Embedded Controller" (and NOT EConomy) and it's built for Embedded applications."

@fanscale

As I understand things, no - XC is an initial release of any version and may contain hard/firmware bugs, and they often run quite hot. The "proper" releases have MC markings, in order to receive that all known bugs must be fixed and they usually run cooler. I gather that the MC does actually stand for "Military Certified" ;)

What does RC after the 68040 or 68060 stand for?
Amiga 4000, Warp Engine 040/40MHz, CV643D with scan doubler module, Tocatta soundcard, Deneb, 72Meg fast ram, 18 gig scsi hard drive.

3xA500, 1xA1200, 1xCD32

Both Meega and fryguy are right.

MC68040 is cool even when running at "insane" 50MHz, but they are rare as rocking horse poo.

XC68040 is the "fry an egg" version. No internal bugs, just runs too much warm, ence the necessicity of a heatsink and fan.

Oh, and EC and LC versions are not desirable at all!
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

40MHz, yeah the L88M mask was the last MC68040RC40A and it runs almost cold at this speed.

to cut a long story short, gavilan, the processors you've been offered are not very useful with an amiga. I say don't even bother.

The only 040 that's worth upgrading is a 40 MHz full 68040 with a special mask Alexh mentioned.
I believe in mt. Fuji

Ceramic pack.
More importantly it is Ceramic PGA (Pin Grid Array)

They also make FE which is plastic QFP (Quad flat pack)
