elbox eide mkIII ( modification )
« on: January 21, 2009, 03:17:00 PM »
i posted in another thread that there is a problem with this device this has been fix on my A1200.

the problem is the type of socket riser, flat pin & round pin on the ROM interface.

changing the ROM sockets on the A1200 motherboard fixed the problem from flat pin to round pin.

the eide fit's a lot better & gives the best connection with no h/r and no loss in data.

round pin also has a advantage that you can change a single pin if it get's damaged.

you will no longer be able to use the cable tie that comes with the unit, but then again you will not need it as when fitted its very hard to remove the eide interface.

this modifcation comes in at number one & recommend anyone with a elbox eide interface to have their motherboard modified.

**** ALL MODIFICATION AT YOUR OWN RISK ***

EXTRA NOTES:

when fitting flat pin in the new round pin motherboard sockets, its best to use another set of round pin socket as to not damage the motherboard socket.

Here in Brazil one amiga technician (hardware expert) changed the Rom sockets for use in my MKII. With this change the MKII is well fixed in the Amiga Rom sockets. No need of use that plastic fitters. Recommended only for who have solder hability.

UPDATE:

if you want to fit a elbox eide mkIII into a desktop A1200 without any modifcation to the keyboard you just have to change the rom sockets to round pin on the motherboard, the unit will just about fit in.

if you use the old flat pin rom socket you are going to need a keyboard modifcation.
