Amiga 1000 and ICD FFV2
« on: April 13, 2008, 05:28:04 AM »
I am almost done with my Amiga 1000 project and I am thinking about adding an ICD Flicker Free Video 2 before I close it up. I have tested it and it works very nicely. However, part of the FFV2 is under the PAL daughter board. Ideally I would like to make a small circuit board like the one in the picture below to move the Denise socket out a little bit. I am new to Eagle though and routing this seems to be trickier than it looks. Short of wire-wrapping a small board does anyone have an idea for a simpler solution? So far I have been working on routing it by hand.

Here is what the Auto-Router came up with after moving the sockets around a little bit.

Thanks,
-Jeff

I just wanted to post an update as this part of the project is complete. The small adapter board is done and the FFV2 is in and working.

See the photos here.

Thanks for looking.

Very nice! Have you thought about the same sort of thing to allow an A500 accelerator to fit in the 1000?

Yes and I have already made the board. It is shipping to me now. My 1000 will have an MTec 68020i properly installed in it as soon as it arrives. The MTec board is already in but the floppy drive can't be mounted without moving the socket back.

I'll post pictures when it's done.

Does the MTec 68020i just work in the A1000 for you? i have one and all i got was a flashing power light when i tried it in a A1000.

Yes ,the M-Tec 020 does work. I had to make a small adapter PCB to relocate it though. Otherwise it sits right where the floppy drive mounts. See the photos in my gallery for pictures of it installed.

Note, the Mtec 68020 does NOT work with the IDE68k project in the A1000. I had to use an ICD AdIDE instead.

Hmmm, do you have a kickstart on board? my M-Tec works fine in my A500 but stops the A1000 booting.

Yes, I have a Kickstart adapter from DJBase with 3.1 (Rom from A500) installed. It also works with 2.05.

Good job i have one of those on the way!

i also have a CFIDE68K - shame they wont play together - are there any other CF/IDE interfaces that we know work with the A1000 and M-Tec?

Finally, did you make any extra adapter boards for the processor socket?

Yes, I have 1 or 2 extra adapter boards. Finding them however is a whole different matter:D  I'll send you a PM if I locate an extra one.  The ICD AdIDE and the M-Tec play well together. I don't know of another solution. With all of these internal expansions it seems the 86 pin side expansion port is no longer reliable.

It figures, I built this monster right before the GBA1000 board run was put together:)

BTW I can't say enough kind words about DJBase or his abilities/hardware. He is a fine technician. You will be pleased with the Kickstart adapter.
