Another HowTO: KeyFrame Manager 101
« on: March 08, 2004, 02:47:11 PM »
The long-awaited explanation of what the KeyFrame Manager in ImageFX4.5 is available.  This is the first in a series, so it's a basic explaination of what the buttons mean.  But you can't cook a mean without knowing where the stove is and what the veggies are!

Go here to access download page

This is for people with real Amigas, Emulated Amigas, and Pegasos. And hopefully, one day, AmigaOne's running ImageFX4.5.  It's a PDF file and works for everyone.

Have fun, folks!!!

As you used it to do your Thought Bubble project, do me a favor and give me a little report on how easy/hard you found using the keyframer.

and i mean something a bit more detailed than, "it was fun!"

If anyone else out in the great big amiga world also has opinions or issues, this will help me target those points and make future HowTo's really useful.
I mean, if you had a problem with the keyFrame Manager, i can't say i'll solve it, but who knows, I might come up with something you and others could use as a workaround!

@Cecelia

Well, the "Thought Bubble" project turned out really simple in the end.*

First, I loaded the empty thought bubble into IFX, then added the text I required. I then cut it out with the magic brush tool and then saved it as a GIF w/transparency.

I then loaded the frames (about 250) which I'd extracted from the AVI (taken on my Canon A70 Digital Camera), using VirtualDub on the PC to save the frames out as BMP's.
I then loaded the GIF into the Brush loader on the KM and used the fade in and the fade out settings.

All in all, this was a simple project, as it never involved any movement of the brush, other than placing it in the correct position.

Actually Cecelia, have you viewed some of the anim-brushes that come with IFX Studio? Some of them are really cool. Migh be an idea to do a tute on how to achieve some of them there FX using the KM?

Cheers

-john

*I recently had a project where I wanted to add a thought bubble to a section of video footage. I couldn't see anything on the PC, other than Premier that could do this and that's WAY out of my price range. Cecelia came to the rescue, suggesting importing the frames into IFX and using the Keyframe Manager. As she predicted, it was dead easy!

The only program I have (aside from IFX) that can do animation is AfterEffects. And that ain't cheap! My boss approved my putting it on my laptop. I'm just lucky!

Thanks, and I'll explore more of those animbrushes - yes, i've messed with them a bit, but i'll write something up. just for you!!!  :knuddel:
