Is it a Television, a PC monitor, or a Mirror?
« on: June 13, 2003, 02:02:56 AM »
"A Mirror TV is basically a two-way mirror with an LCD screen behind it. When the LCD is activated, you see the display. When it's turned off, you see your reflection. A special lamination developed by Philips makes all of this possible."

;-) Maybe we're looking at it backward.  Instead of thinking of it as a monitor that can be used as a mirror, we could look at it as a mirror that can be used as a monitor/TV.  Imagine that in your bathroom, you notice that you've running low on shaving cream.  Just fire up the bathroom Internet terminal, and order some more, online.  The doorbell rings while you're brushing your teeth?  Flip over to the outdoor security camera and see who it is before firing up the intercom.

What about a Webcam right beside it, so you can see your face the right way round for a change?

Try shaving THAT way :-o

;-) No, thanks.  I prefer my ears ON, thank you very much, not lying in the sink.

Wonder how long it would be before the webcam goes in the mirror as well.  And a microphone....

...wait, wouldn't that be a telescreen?

@Quixote

Yep, a mirror that can be used as a TV/Monitor is exactly the way to look at it.

Bathroom use is for the more eccentric, but the obvious place where it would make a difference is in bedrooms and hotel rooms, where space can be at a premium. Most bedrooms/hotel rooms have mirrors of this kind, and so having them double up as TVs makes excellent sense.

Then, as has already been mentioned, this could be a step to bring stand alone televiewers into existence. You just need to add a few bits and improve a little on today's technolgy, but it'll be there in a few years.

A monitor that doubles up as a mirror is next to useless, but a mirror that doubles up as a monitor is a top idea.  :-P
