Microsoft goes against Opera again...
« on: February 17, 2003, 08:42:53 PM »
Microsoft has again tried to block Opera users from accessing Microsoft's www.msn.com page.

Here's a press statement from Opera

Odd, I've not had a problem. I use Opera 7. I've been to some of the MSN pages, Microsoft's website, and Hotmail with no problems in the last couple of weeks.

This really should be illegal for Gates to do.

Somebody has got to stop this man from pulling crap like this.

This is just as bad as him renting xp and telling people that they are actually buying it.

it's totally broken in Opera 6 ... so I thought it was time to upgrade and downloaded this "bork" version =) And it actually feels faster than Opera 6 which was lightning fast :)
Slightly bored and severly confused..

I've seen similar problems where spoofing didn't work. I use Opera7(not spoofing) and haven't had this problem.

Actually, it is.  The question is, can anyone do anything about it?

You are ALL missing one point: Opera should be ported to MorphOS (and AmigaOS4 if it gets finished)

This is true.
It is his website, but it's not his internet.
Although I'm sure that he would love that.

m$ still belives that they own the internet.

anyway probs like this we see all day everyday on amiga and on mac's, i really dont understand the fuzz here, sure if m$ did it delibrately...but then again why wouldnt he ? :)

this is MSN god damnit, using it means u support microsoft, hence u only make em stronger by doing so.

anyway if opera6/7 etc was supposed to have this fixed or netscape etc, well then all other browsers on the market should be the same , a standard should be a standard no matter what hw or os u run underneath...

sure i know that amiga browsers and (some) mac/linux browsers doesnt have the updated stuff, but still.. i still have the opinion that ALL this should be free as the INET is free and its a knowledge base (LOL) , imho people who hold onto rights or change em and doesnt share should more or less be sued, thats my opinon and i think alot of you guys share it with me aswell.

the next thing we will read is that ibrowse 2.x is locked outside of MSN because of anti friendly communication with the webservers :) :P
Whats up with all the hate!

@DarthX:
to tell you the truth, Microsoft is out there to KILL the competition ever since day 1 of the Apple computer back in the late 1970's.

Sorry, I'm not a supporter for MorphOS.  AmigaOS4 all the way!

M$ are at it again......

Can't say I'm surprised.  Annoyed yes, but never surprised with anything they do.  It's just another way to try to get people to use IE.

Here's a thought, if it happens again, everybody that's a msn user should report the website as not working.  Let's see how much they like getting bombarded with emails/phone calls from dissatisfied customers. :-)

Another way to look at it is this: people have got rid of IE and are using other browsers, what would you do if msn stopped showing up on your browser?  I'd certainly not bother with msn's website (mind you, I only use it for messenger and hotmail, for which I don't need msnmessenger (I use Trillian) or the web site (ok, I use outlook, but it's easy to use and I can't be bothered to try different mailers).  This way, msn's website is only hurting itself (ok, maybe just a little).
