I agree in some parts to this article -
The Internets future lies in 'Nano-Apps' - auto downloaded along with the media, doesn't require installation and just does one job - show/play the media. The nano-app will work as a plugin into the operating system and seem like a seamless part of it. of course the O/S needs something akin to the java runtime, but as long as it's part of the o/s to start with, compatabilty wouldn't be an issue.

Just my 2 bits.

Although I'm happy to see Carl and Rebol get a little publicity, this article seems like a re-hash of ideas that people had 5 or 6 years ago.  Simple, ubiquitous computing will always be the dream, but as long as we have juggernaut companies like Microsoft who favor proprietary (and often inferior) technology over generally open, accepted standards, it will remain a dream.

And to a degree, this XNet stuff is already here.  I remember at least one company that makes a Java applet for streaming video.  It works quite well, although obviously not on current Amigas. :-(  Microsoft built their version of XNet applets years ago.  Does anyone remember ActiveX?  Ack, ack, ack, ack, ack.....

I had some doubts when Carl started with Rebol but it is going  very well for him. I even got a big Rebol book here. Maybe Carl and Bill should have some talks. :-)

There is already AmigaOS versions of Rebol. Are any Amigan programmers actually using it?

I did got a bit into it, but not so much. Have not done anything with it in a long time. I might have a look at it again and see if it is of any use.

I'd hate to see AmigaOS support dropped due to their preceived lack of interest. OS4 native version would be nice!

TCL/TK is also a great language. Worth checking out. It's a scripting language but it has a compiler.

Hi,

There is already AmigaOS versions of Rebol. Are any Amigan programmers actually using it?

I like to use it when I use my miggy as a webcam server: uploading multiple files using ftp is a breeze in Rebol. Also I am going to use it to create some CGI scripts.

This sounds too much of an euphemism for "information applaiance" and "Post PC Era." Let us hope the industry doesn't throw computer users in the gutter in honor of game consoles and set top boxes.
