Aminet "how to use it"
« on: September 20, 2003, 04:26:51 AM »
This is very basic but I'm new at this.  I have just installed Amiga xl on its own machine "PC" and would like to use the Aminet cd-roms.  How do I go about using the software off the roms? I have tried to install but it seems that nothing happens ( no drawer shows up in the gui.  but the dir listing in a shell shows that the program has been installed.)  Anyone with experiance with this Please tell me what I am doing wrong.
Thanks is advance

open the drawer where you installed the programs, and then click and hold the right mouse button. The menus appear, and you should select Window and then Show All.
Drawers and files only show up in workbench if there is an info-file together with the file.

Example,  starburst.jpg won't show up in wb, but if you had a startburst.jpg.info it would have shown up.

The info file has information about the file itself. If you find one, do the same procedure outlined above but go into Icon and then Information and you'll understand how it works, I think.

Good luck with your XL :)

These are interesting times we live in. New machines in progress, new AmigaOS in progress.. userbase slowly, slowly growing..  which is a success in itself.
