Had some fun using my A590 HD
« on: May 25, 2009, 08:01:26 PM »
I havent used my A590 Hard disk for at least 6 years if not more and Ive just decided i want to use it again and it was just great seeing my old HD installation using my A500Plus .

Nowadays i ignore my A500s etc.. and prefare using the A1200 , but sometimes its so nice just to setup my alltime favorite computer and use it .

Its amazing how this HD which i setup around 12 years ago still works as good as though i have just set it up yesterday . :)

I know what you mean. I do the same with my AlfaData hard drive controller with 120mb drive in it. Works like a charm and it takes me back to some good times of 14400 modems and BBs.

I upgraded my A590 to 2MB, Rev 7.0 ROMs and a 1.2GB SCSI HD.  It rocks, though I don't use it at all as I prefer my A4000.

Dougal, I know what you mean.  I still have my Supra SCSI interface and the original 40MB HDD from my first 500. Sadly, I don't have a 500 anymore,  but the 19 year old hard drive works fine. I'm really tempted to get a 500 again, assuming I could ever find an accel. for it :(

Every time I fire up an app on the Miggys it still amazes me how this technology has stood the test of time.

A500's are very very easy to come by and cheap too ... I have seen on epay for very cheap .

As far as i know my A590 has got 2Mb and a 120Mb HD . I have no idea about ROMS and what not though .

For me the A500 , more specificly the A500Plus , i love them so .

What i really want and cant seem to find is a A501Plus to make my A500Plus 2Mb Chip

OK, OK, I vow to get a 500 again :)

Ah, I've still got the A501 and (probably dead) MegaChip ... I didn't get rid of the 500 by choice... it died on me, and at that point, no-one thought that they could be repaired :(

What really burns me up is that I gave a full A500 system to a friend, who later lost his job, and subsequently all of his possesions, including said A500 ....

That IS a sad story ... Bet you must be wondering where the A500 ended up .

Nowadays i keep anything Amiga , broken or not .

I remember a few years ago throwing out 2 broken A500's . They had broken cases and missing chips and damaged keyboards . Threw them right in the skip . Poor things .
