Where to get AMIGA OS4.1 software
« on: June 02, 2009, 10:49:58 PM »
Is there a lot of software out there made especially for OS4.1?  If there is, where does one get it?  Is there a particular website that sells it?  If I decide to buy a system runing OS4.1, I would like to know that there are some basics out there (few games, Office Suite, etc.).  Thanks.

There is an OS 4 (PPC) section.

Good luck :)

@barney

As DJBase and Tension indicated, OS4depot and aminet are great places to look for software.  There are several programs under development.  As far as I know, there is no official Office Suite available yet.  Many old 68K programs also work fine with OS4.1, as long as they were written in a system friendly way and do not try to access the classic Amiga chipset or features that are only present in an older version of AmigaOS.  Some people have more success than others.

I have used the following programs with OS4.0 and OS4.1 on my MicroA1.  Not sure if they all work on the Sam440, but at least it is a place to start.  I had some problems with interaction between AWeb and TuneNet, so I don't have TuneNet installed right now.  TuneNet was a really great music player and internet radio program.  Not sure if it is still in development.

Here are two word processors, one is in development, the other is not:
Cinnamon Writer, Final Writer 97

There are many editor programs, including NotePad which comes with OS4.1.

Here are some web browsers:
Origyn Web Browser (aka OWB), NetSurf, AWeb, IBrowse

Here are some email programs:
YAM, SimpleMail

Here is an IRC chat program:
WookieChat

Various music, audio, image, video viewers:
TuneNet, AmigaAMP, MuliView, WarpView, DvPlayer, AmiPDF

Some paint programs:
PPaint, TVPaint, Real3D

Some other programs:
KingCON, MicroRexx, AWNPipe

@barney

Here are some more programs from a thread on a different website:

AmiCygnix with AbiWord, Amiga Writer 2.2, Turbocalc, Wordworth and Pagestream.

AmiCygnix is a unix environment for AmigaOS 4.  AmiCygnix creates its own X11 (X-window style) desktop environment ontop of my OS4.1 Workbench and AbiWord works inside that environment.  AmiCygnix and AbiWord are still under development.

I do not own Amiga Writer 2.2, Turbocalc, Wordworth or Pagestream, but other people have had success with them.

Thanks for all the info.  Now I just need to decide between the two different motherboard models: SAM440ep and the SAM440ep flex.  It looks like the flex model is quite a bit better.  Does anybody know where to purchase this motherboard?  I see that Amigakit.com only sells the sam440ep model.  Thanks.
