Cyclone with Maverick
« on: February 25, 2009, 07:44:40 PM »
What is the Advantage of using a Cyclone device with Maverick? Are these hard to find? I keep reading about these. I have a large original disk collection and would like to do a preservation project. What is the amiga equivalent of a commodore 64 .G64 file that preserves the original disk structure and protection? Is Cyclone with Maverick the best way to back up my amiga originals and presrve the original disk structure? Thanks in advance.

SPS (http://www.softpres.org/) has the ideal format for this and is doing exactly what you describe, why not just contribute?

Much easier to make a cyclone cable than to buy (if you can find one to buy that is).

Link to diagram for cyclone cable.

Unless he is referring to 'Cyclone 20', which Richard Aplin (and others) are working on, and SPS is SERIOUSLY considering moving over to once it is working properly.

Basically, Cyclone 20 will be EVERYTHING that Catweisel (Jens) promised to be, but failed to deliver.

Reading and writing of just about (if not all) protection schemes used, on *ALL* formats.

Note that SPS is not (imho) a real preservation project until the file format and code is opened. Right now the library is only available for some targets they have built it for, and it is closed. Many reasons are given for "why" and most of them are nonsense.

@whiteb: Thanks for that link to Richard Aplin. That guys a legend, I used to hang out with his mates at computer club back in the day.

I've still got their 680xx source code ^_^
