How to install an A1000's spacebar?
« on: March 07, 2009, 03:46:04 PM »
Yeah, it seems like such a simple thing to do.  I took apart my 1000's keyboard last week along with a C128 to do some de-yellowing, and I've got a bunch of parts now.  I've got the space bar on there, but I'm guessing I need some springs as well.  Where are they placed on there?

There are two springs on an A1000 spacebar. You'll see a couple of raised dimples, about the diameter of the springs themselves on the base of the keyboard, to the left and right of the switch. On the underside of the space bar, you'll see a nipple of sorts and it'll become obvious to you how the thing snaps in place. It's easiest to get the retaining bar clipped in first, move the space bar out of the way, rest the springs on their dimples and then carefully lift the spacebar up onto and then over where it snaps into its switch in the centre. Takes a little bit of patience and some practice is all.

That's kind of what I figured - thanks!   Now I have to figure out which springs go in there - they sort of mixed in with the C128's keyboard springs.

They're somewhat stubby and loose for the A1000. Not as springy as you might think and ummm... we *are* talking about a computer keyboard here, not the women native to southern WI  ;-)
