Any comparison of Workbench distributions?
« on: February 18, 2009, 12:36:33 PM »
I just started using and checking out all available 3.1/3.X/3.9 workbench distributions, that is, AmigaForever, AmiKit, AmigaSYS and AIAB.

I just wonder if anybody encountered comparison of these environments, eventually some reviews?

I know one can add/modify all those programs within but what I mean is aligning out-of-the-box versions so that they're easily comparable.
Was: Mac Mini PPC running MorphOS 2.4
Now: Amiga Forever 2010 with AmiKit and AmigaSYS
Not used: Icaros Desktop 1.2 (reason: no wifi)
Planned soon: an OS4 system
Shortly then: a MOS notebook (wifi is a must-have)

AmiKit, AmigaSYS and AIAB are not workbench distributions.

They are a collection of 3rd party APPS.

You still need an official WB disk/CD to use them

Yeah, I know it.  I mentioned AmigaForever having all the necessary KICK/WB.  By distribution I meant customized UI plus apps in fact.

Actually I meant apps mostly - there are so many of them it makes it hard to compare after first use.  But if someone's been using it or just for the purpose of testing... I'd like to see the result.

Also, I just installed ClassicWB, another apps bundle.

EDIT*  But you are correct - those are not Workbench distributions...  Alas, what should I call them then?  App bundles??
