Problems reinstalling AmiTCP/IP on 1200 with OS3.5
« on: January 23, 2009, 07:00:01 PM »
Hi folks,

I have been using AmiTCP/IP version 3 and Miami on my A1200 for about 12months but due to some unrelated SW problems I needed to reinstall AmiTCP/IP so I used the built in installer for version 3.0b2 and then followed the Web Installation guide to fix the bugs in the installer.

Now when I boot up I rx a system message "AmiTcp/bin/startnet is not executable". Follwed by a normal system bootup.

If I LIST the file startnet there are no "e" or "s" protection bits set, if I set the "s" bit and reboot I then rx a system message "AmiTCP/IP version 3 or later must be started first" and a window asking me to exit AmiTCP:bin/inetd
A normal system bootup then continues OK

Anyone had similar problems or ideas/suggestions appreciated,
Ian

An idea,

Highlight the main program icon (or whatever program is not being executed), 'get info' and make sure the box 'executable' (or something similar) is checked.

See if that does the trick...

Hi thanks for that feedback, I think that is the workbench method (rather than using CLI) of changing the protection bits on a file, but it did give me a thought ..... perhaps I needed to set BOTH the S and E bits and yes sure enough that appears to work, at least it does now after I removed all the old AmiTCP files and re-installed everything from scratch.

So, in a sense - that was the problem? Changing the protection bits ala CLI allows you to run it now??
