Looking for SCSI-cable in Europe
« on: January 10, 2009, 02:24:17 AM »
I want to hook my old external SCSI CD-drive to the CSPPC, so I need a HD68-CX50 cable with high-byte termination. I've been looking high and low, but can only find these in dedicated shops in the US. Anyone know a shop in Europe to buy SCSI accessories from? Strangely enough, none of the Amiga shops carry the cable I need, not much SCSI equipment at all in fact. :-?

In the US, I have found plenty, a couple of examples:

http://www.scsisource.com

I can order from the US, but it feels really silly to order regular SCSI cable from overseas.

Got so many at the surplus store we chop the ends off them and sell the stuff for scrap!  No one buys enough SCSI for the shop to even bother selling it.   Too bad it is here in California.  I can try to save one for you and ship it to you if you want to pay shipping.  I can't tell the type of termination this cable uses.

Sadly, most of them are without high-byte terminator, made to hook wide devices to narrow scsi bus.

I found some links for you:

1) MAG

2) Mercateo

3) EBay

4) CyberstormPPC manual (PDF; German & English)

5) CSPPC FAQ (German)

I just gooogled for "aktiv terminierter adapter UW-SCSI nach SCSI II" (actively terminated adaptor UW-SCSI to SCSI II)...
All the best,

Dandy

No HDD on the CSPPC? Would be much faster than any other alternative (and would provide for proper termination).

To not obstruct any future expansions with highly specialized cabling, better use a standard wide cable, an adaptor for the 50pin drive and a bog standard cable terminator. If you want those real cheap, you can take a look at the various offers on eBay. Otherwise reichelt.de or extend.de have everything you need.

Thanks for the list of suppliers, I'll manage now :-)

Sure I have HDD on the CSPPC, that's part of the problem since it's a wide disk with no termination, so I need to terminate the upper byte when fitting a narrow device. It would be cool if I could tell the controller on the CSPPC to "go narrow", but I dont think that's possible. I'll now go for a HD68-HD50 adapter with termination at the end of the cable, and replace my wide external port with a narrow one, I dont have any wide external equipment anyhow.
