Help with Mroocheck/Punchinello needed
« on: November 29, 2002, 10:30:16 PM »
Well, I just bought Punchinello (which I assume is the same as Mroocheck) and it worked fine. Then I decided I'll try the wheel. For that, drivers are naturally needed, but after driver installation left mousebutton doesn't work, right mouse button doesn't do anything, and wheel pressed down works as a right button. I have tried to load it after workbench startup is finished manually, at the second last line of startup-sequence just before endcli-line, and as the basic installation leaves it.

The mouse and adapter works fine if mroocheck driver isn't loaded, so I think this issue is curable?

I just noticed, that if I keep Wheel-button pressed down all the time after mroocheck-driver is loaded, lmb and rmb work as they should.

I guess its a Mk3. I had problems with my Mk2, but now I have a Mk3 its fine on my system. What
type of mouse is it? Not every single make will work. ALL Logitech mice work with it though. That is
probably what is the problem. The Mk3 supports more than the 2 I think, but its still not perfect in
the support department. If you get one it does support you will get very little problems.

I'm using logitech mouses - without drivers it works fine, but when I load drivers, everything goes crazy, unless I keep the wheel pressed down all the time.

I'm not sure what version it it - adapter is grey, has serial output instead of PS/2, and it has funny white sticker with Power Computing logo on it.

Maybe this adapter uses different drivers that Mroocheck - are there anywhere Punchinello drivers? Where can I get drivers for this - I got my current (mroocheck) drivers from Gfxbase. Since I don't have serial number on my adapter, I can't subscribe drivers from Elbox.  Maybe some Punchinello user could post me or point d/l-place for me?

It sounds very much like a Mk2. Yes there are drivers for it. I gave up on them until I got a Mk3, as they are not very good for Mk2. Though I didn`t get that problem. Mine was weird, but not like yours.

Ask Power Computing. Ask them if they can email you them. Thing is I found the drivers for the mk2 to be rubbish anyway, and you can`t use the mk3 drivers on a mk2.

Mroocheck.driver is the right (and only) one. Read the readme.txt file how to calibrate the wheel. After the wheel is calibrated all buttons will work as desired. By default the driver is calibrated for a PAL screen mode. If you use another mode you must recalibrate.

Get the next to last drivers from http://www.javosoft.cz/amiga/download.html
The latest versions come by email from Elbox after you've registered.

Bye,
Thomas

Thomas:

I would have registered, but there is only Power Computing's sticker on  the adapter - no serial number that's required for registration at Elbox.  :-?

And I have tried those drivers (got them from gfxbase.com) - they caused those problems I described earlier.  :-(

I just read old Power Computing's ad from Amiga Format. They are selling Punchinello (MkI?) for 25£, and addtional wheel-upgrade+software for 5£.

Could it be that I have this old Punchinello, and that I require some sort of hw-upgrade for it to allow normal usage with wheel and buttons?

I've also got a mouse interface lying around here, I think it's a Punchinello Mk I. Allows connections of serial style connector PC mice. It's  a little grey box which connects to the Amiga mouse port and there's also a second device which in turn connect between the grey box and mouse port and also connects to the parallel port. I think that is what gives you scrollwheel support.

Mind you I've never used it, so I could be mistaken.
